TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I believe the art classroom, perhaps more than any other, has the power to elicit and reveal talents from children coming from all backgrounds and situations. Creating a space where all students feel a safe sense of structure in order to nurture these creative ambitions is crucial to my practice. My classrooms learn to identify that all types of diversity are beneficial and enriching to their own artistic practices. I will ensure students mature and learn how to think by pushing and challenging themselves on every lesson.
I’ll make the study of art and art history intrigue students through innovative assignments that will allow them to discover their connection to it on a personal level. Through integrating the history of art students will learn to be less timid in their approach to it. I strive to see students use this confidence to further inspire and inform their experimentation and creative energy inside and outside of the art classroom. I will craft lessons around the value of geographical, cultural, and temporal context to the global world of art to establish student understanding of their place. I enjoy being technologically up-to-date in a quickly advancing digital age and look forward to teaching the skills and knowledge of material that ensures students’ fluency in mediums and trends that surround them on a daily basis.
As an educator, I guide and support students as they develop life skills that transcend the art classroom into daily life. It’s my goal to never forget that I am always learning, especially in the classroom, where no two students are the same. I look forward to working with students each day so they can teach me how I can improve.
